The annual tyre tests by industry leading magazine Motorrad are the ones that every tyre manufacturer wants to win, and this year it’s Continental and their all-new ContiRoadAttack 3 sport touring tyre who have reason to celebrate!
Motorrad’s team of seasoned experts put six major manufacturers to the test in a series of dry and wet tests, and the overall scores published on 26th May 2017 were as follows:
- Continental – ContiRoadAttack 3 – 231/250
- Metzeler – Roadtec 01 – 228/250
- Pirelli – Angel GT – 227/250
- Michelin – Pilot Road 4 – 222/250
- Dunlop – RoadSmart III – 221/250
- Bridgestone – T30 EVO – 214/250
In the dry the new ContiRoadAttack 3 was the clear winner scoring 140 from a possible 150 points, also topping eight of the nine individual tests. It also achieved top marks for cornering stability and cornering grip, where the German tyre maker’s unique MultiGrip technology comes into it’s own to create a tyre which gets progressively softer towards the shoulder area.
The ContiRoadAttack 3 also scored 91 points from a possible 100 in the wet, stopping dead in just 43.8 metres from a speed of 100kph on a soaked handling track. To highlight the big improvement’s that Continental have made in wet weather performance with this latest tyre, that distance is 1.5 metres less than the 45.3 metres achieved by Metzeler’s Roadtec 01 which was considered to be the class leading tyre last year. It’s also one metre shorter than Michelin’s highly acclaimed Pilot Road 4.
In previous years testers have continually praised the sporty nature of Continental’s RoadAttack family in the dry, and the new tyre certainly retains it’s famous sporting credentials. The latest ContiRoadAttack 3 also gives you the confidence to attack in the wet.
With many sizes now available in the UK, the ContiRoadAttack 3 fits a wide range of popular touring motorcycles, sportsbikes, nakeds and road-going adventure machines. They have also included a special ‘GT’ version with an enhanced construction for optimum performance on heavy touring motorcycles such as the FJR1300.
