New Zealander Courtney Duncan gave everyone at the Dunlop Bike IT DRT Kawasaki motocross team something to smile about at the weekend, winning both of the FIM Women’s Motocross Championship races at Agueda, Portugal.
With 29 bikes on the grid, Duncan was up against a talent packed field of riders, but the 23-year old put in a superb performance at the Crossdromo Internacional de Agueda which was graced with dry, sunny conditions.
In the opening moto, Duncan crossed the line a total of 12 seconds ahead of Larissa Papenmeier in 2nd. The gap in the second moto was even bigger, with Duncan half a minute in front of Nancy van de Ven at the flag. A full 50 point haul moves Duncan to the top of the standings, 4 points ahead of closest rival Van de Ven.
Dunlop MXGP Race Coordinator, Eddy Seal said:
“After Verstappen’s win last race, to have Courtney topping the ranking shows the depth of talent in WMX and the performance of the Dunlop Geomax range.”
In MXGP, the highlight for Dunlop was a double podium finish for Arnaud Tonus of Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha bike. The Swiss rider finished third in both races, finishing third overall and scoring 40 points. He also took the Fox Holeshot win.
The next WMX race is the GP of Czech Republic on the 27-28 July, with the hard pack of the Loketske Serpentiny track providing a very different challenge for the WMX riders. The MXGP contingent race next week at the French GP.
