Wider Operating Range For New Starcross 5

Michelin Starcross 5 UK availability

The recently announced Starcross 5 motocross tyre range from Michelin is the result of three years of R&D by the French company, who have been working with riders of all levels.

Michelin’s R&D team have been working alongside members of Michelin Motorsport, pooling their respective expertise to develop a new range of motocross tyres which offer performance across a wide range of conditions.

The new Starcross 5 will be available in Sand, Soft, Medium and Hard versions, which will be phased into the UK market from September 2015 until the middle of next year – and as their biggest UK customer, we’ll have them as soon as they become available for our trade customers! The new range has a wider operating range than it’s much respected predecessor as can be seen below:

This gives riders a more consistent level of performance across changing terrains, and makes tyre choice much simpler whether you’re riding competitively or just for pleasure.

The new Michelin Starcross 5 features a new, lighter casing – but also uses stronger high density materials to ensure no loss of durability. This offers faster and more responsive handling, and has a number of other benefits too:

  • Greater straight-line traction and more progressive handling in corners
  • Ability to run higher pressures, therefore reducing the risk of the tyre coming off the rim, with no loss of grip or comfort
  • Great performance from the starting gate, so no running in period is required
  • Tyre becomes easier to fit

The directional layout of both intermediate and side blocks in the tread provide good steering response from the front tyre, and traction from the rear. Central tread blocks have been specifically designed to enhance braking performance and traction on all types of surface, acting like hooks as they dig-in and drive the bike forward.

The following sizes will be introduced into the range over approximately the next 9 months, so stay tuned for updates:
