What Is Continental’s Continuous Compound Technology?

  • Increased grip when cornering

So just how does the Continental Continuous Compound Technology work?

For some time now dual and even triple compound tyres have been commonplace on the market, thanks in part to the exposure they have received through MotoGP.

However one of the noticeable problems has been the ‘step’ that riders have experienced when going from an upright position into a leaning position for cornering as the contact surface between the tyre and the road changes from the harder to the softer compound and back again.

With it’s CCT technology Continental has managed to manufacture tyres which have all the benefits of a dual compound tyre from just a single rubber compound.

By curing the tyre in a unique temperature controlled environment Continental have been able to use a ‘homogenous grip grading’ which ensures that the shoulder area is more flexible and provides more grip for leaning into corners, whereas the central tread area is harder and more wear resistant when riding upright.

The tyre offers a continuous transition between harder and softer sections due to the curing process, and as such eliminates the ‘step’ feeling which is a real complaint for many riders when transitioning in and out of corners on a standard dual compound tyre.
