Former World SBK champion Sylvain Guintoli made his GP debut in 2000, and it’s fair to say that he’s learnt a lot about tyres in his last two decades of racing!
Earlier this year Sylvain, who is now contracted as a test rider to the Suzuki MotoGP team, headed to Donington for a day on his Suzuki superbike to put Michelin’s brand new Power Cup 2 through its paces.
Armed with a 190/55 and 200/55 section rear, Sylvain spent the day playing with his tyre setup to try and get the most from the French tyre maker’s new rubber – while showing up a lot of other riders on track in the process!
Brand new for 2020, the treaded Power Cup 2 replaces the now discontinued Power Cup Evo and is a road-homolgated, track focused tyre for race and track day use.
As it’s road homologated, Sylvain decided to run them without tyre warmers and found that they were working well within a lap to one lap and a half, and there was certainly plenty of life left in them at the end of the day too.
The larger proportion of carbon black used in the compound offers high levels of outright grip on track, while Michelin’s proven 2CT and 2CT+ Technologies provide a dual compound front and rear tyre with a harder central section and softer shoulders.
