The Honda NC750X was never meant to set the world alight – it’s a bike that quietly goes about it’s business, fitting around your lifestyle as an extremely capable commuter and tourer, even proving to be convenient for a quick spin down to the shops with an ample top box and panniers available from Honda.
In the March 2016 edition of Motorcycle Sport & Leisure magazine, respected bike journalist Chris Moss has been giving his latest updates on the bike after covering more than 4,000 miles so far on a long-termer.
Chris’s DCT version came fitted with Dunlop Trailmax D609 tyres as standard – an older, road oriented adventure style tyre, which he reports was less than inspiring in the wet, with a vague feel and regular slides being the norm. That being the case, Chris decided to fit Bridgestone’s latest sport touring tyre, the Battlax T30 EVO.
He says:
“In fairness to Dunlop, they do make some brilliant tyres, but when Honda dictated the spec of the rubber for the NC, as manufacturers often do when ordering OE tyres, they obviously stipulated cost and durability ahead of performance. Fitting a set of Bridgestone’s new T30 EVO sport touring tyres provided a total solution. It’s hard to quantify just how much safer and more secure the Honda now feels in the wet. I’m yet to have even the slightest moment on them in the rain, with the EVOs constantly staggering me with their unbelievable adhesion.
The Bridgestones have made the Honda feel more exciting in the dry too. Never able to quicken my pulse rate much in a straight-line thanks to its modest engine power, the tyres do at least raise the bike’s corner speed to a more thrilling level.
I thought the T30 EVO’s extra grip might overwhelm the 750’s suspension, but that’s not the case, so harder cornering and braking feels totally comfortable. Generating the extra speed is having a negative effect on my fuel consumption though….”

We already know that the Bridgestone has an impeccable wet weather pedigree – it topped an independent Motorrad magazine wet test of leading sport touring tyres in 2015.
