This weekend saw a crop of the world’s premier road racers take to the street circuit of Guia as they battled it out for the 2014 Macau Grand Prix title.
The 48th Macau Grand Prix was held in scorching heat, with track temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius, after a cooler practice and qualifying session. The circuit is a 3.8 mile Armco lined network of streets, with very limited run off, and features a 180mph straight and the tight 20mph Melco hairpin.
Scottish rider and British Superbike competitor Stuart Easton took pole position on his PBM Kawasaki, and then led the race from flag to flag to take the win by approximately 14 seconds on the Metzeler Racetec Slick. This earned the Scotsman his fourth Macau Grand Prix crown, after his return from a 3 year break.
Behind him there was a ferocious battle for the podium between Michael Rutter, Lee Johnston and Metzeler riders Martin Jessop and Gary Johnson. By the end of the 12 lap contest Rutter held on to 2nd place, with Jessop in 3rd and Johnson in 4th.
METZELER UK Racing Manager Jason Griffiths attended the entire event supporting teams with their tyre options and witnessed Easton take his pole position time on a METZELER RACETEC™ Slick race tyre, as opposed to a qualifying tyre. “A Macau GP victory is a fantastic way to finish the Road Racing season for Metzeler! We were treated to a demonstration of precision riding from Stuart this afternoon. Track temperature today was 40 degrees, as opposed to 22 degrees for yesterday’s qualifying. The performance of the RACETEC Slicks was absolutely superb, looking in perfect condition at the end. Our thanks must go to Paul Bird and the PBM Kawasaki squad, a pleasure to work with and congratulations also to Martin Jessop on a fine third place.”
