Roadtec 01s Impress On The Thruxton

Metzeler Roadtec 01 reviews

A large wood screw through the rear tyre ended Simon Relph’s love affair with the Pirelli Angel GT tyres fitted to his Triumph Thruxton 1200 R long-termer a little earlier than expected.

Writing in this week’s Motorcycle News, Simon has taken his Triumph to the historic Hampshire circuit of the same name for a 280 mile test ride to watch a recent round of British Superbikes when the chance came up.

A lack of early morning traffic on a Sunday made for some excellent riding, with more riders appearing as Simon hit the final stretch to Thruxton.

Following the irreparable puncture, Simon switched to a pair of the new Roadtec 01 sport touring tyres from Pirelli owned manufacturer Metzeler.

Metzeler Roadtec 01 reviewIn his article, Simon says:

“In those 2500 miles I had fallen in love with the Pirellis, thanks to the total confidence they had instilled in me, and I wondered if the new rubber could be as good.

Journey well underway, I found myself over the Angel GT bereavement and developing a new love affair with the Metzelers, which were at least as good as the Angel GTs, if not better.”

A day trip to Thruxton in the sunshine isn’t really long enough to come to an opinion on the all-round abilities of the new Metzeler’s, but initial signs are good and we look forward to seeing more updates from Simon in the future.
