Roadtec 01 “Sets The Scale” For Wet Grip

Metzeler Roadtec 01 review

The new Roadtec 01 from Metzeler takes over from the popular Z8 Interact at the top of their sport touring range for 2016.

With so many changes the German brand stepped away from giving it the more obvious Z10 moniker, the new naming convention signifying this tyre as the latest evolution in the sport touring market.

With mileage yields boosted by a claimed 10% over the Z8 Interact, and a big jump in the levels of wet weather grip Metzeler are confident that this tyre is the real deal when it comes to do-it-all rubber.

BMW Motorcycle Magazine were recently given the chance to test that bold assertion on an S1000R, so sent along their man Maik Schwarz to an event in Germany to find out more.

Metzeler Roadtec 01 reviewIn Issue 32 of the magazine, Maik says:

“Apart from the wear, we were able to test the Roadtec 01 intensively on the track and then on beautiful country roads surrounding it. First impression: turning feels even easier, the choice of lean angle seems linear, more precise and without the slight resistance just before the ‘last groove’ as was felt with the Z8. Stability and dry grip remain virtually unchanged and at the highest level. As for the wet grip, the Roadtec 01 sets the scale at an amazingly higher level. The profile is reminiscent of a racing rain tyre and that is exactly how it feels. Even on top of road markings and cobblestones, the 01 demonstrates that braking distances are now significantly shortened by a few yards – really impressive.”

The tyre also comes in sizes for adventure bikes, and in a special HWM version for heavyweight machines.
