German 2-wheel brand Metzeler have officially launched their new Roadtec 01 sport touring tyre in Frankfurt.
With it’s radical new tread design, the new tyre clearly takes aim at the likes of Michelin’s Pilot Road 4, which is well known for it’s superb wet weather grip.
Taking over from the award winning Roadtec Z8 Interact at the top of their sport touring range, it draws a clear dividing line with it’s predecessors, hence the name Roadtec 01 – marking the start of something completely new!
The new tyre gives improved grip on wet roads, and a claimed 10% increase in mileage over the Z8. The “HWM” version in a number of sizes is aimed at heavier bikes, similar to the GT spec tyres produced by other manufacturers. Metzeler claim it provides additional stability, using a two-ply casing on both front and rear to reduce the intensity of vibrations from the road surface or generated during handlebar movements.

With sport touring tyres now being adopted by the riders of a greater variety of motorcycles from supersport to adventure, this is a big market – and riders expect the latest tyres to be extremely versatile in order to cope with a wide range of conditions.
The Frankfurt launch saw riders enjoy the best of the German countryside, with plenty of opportunity to test high speed stability too across a range of different motorcycles.
With some fantastic riding roads within easy reach of the city, it was the ideal setting for the launch of a tyre that is expected to deal with a wide variety of conditions, and we will wait to hear the verdict from the various industry magazines very soon.
