Of all the major tyre manufacturers, Pirelli are definitely having the quietest year when it comes to new product announcements for 2020!
Alongside the expansion of their current Diablo race range, the Italian tyre maker are set to introduce a new 18-inch classic race tyre based on the long-standing Phantom Sportscomp.
Intended for use in classic sprint and endurance racing, the Phantom Sportscomp RS uses the firm’s historic tread design combined with some of their very latest technologies to offer exceptional on track performance.
Pirelli say they have refined the compound mixing process to improve the distribution of their extra-fine Carbon Black to guarantee consistent performance over several sessions of racing. The compound mix offers fast warm-up times, ideal for use without tyre warmers.
The contemporary tread pattern is said to deliver good drainage in intermediate conditions, while a large footprint at full lean gives excellent feedback from the front, and high levels of traction at the rear for driving hard out of the corners.
Next year, the tyre will be released in a 110/80 R18 M/C 85V TL front, and 130/70 R18 M/C 63V TL and 150/70 R18 M/C 70V TL rear.
