Yesterday saw the thrilling conclusion of the 2021 MXGP season take place in Italy and the famous Tazio Nuvolari circuit in the city of Mantova.
Heading into the final round just three points separated Romain Febvre and Jeffrey Herlings in the race for the MXGP crown, and after two fantastic races it was the Dutchman who emerged victorious, securing tyre manufacturer Pirelli a 76th world motocross title in the process.
Four of the top five riders in this season’s premier class standings were riding on Pirelli with Tim Gajser taking 3rd, Jeremy Seewer 4th and Jorge Prado 5th.
At the previous round Maxime Renaux had already secured the MX2 title on Pirelli, but it was Jago Geerts who dominated proceedings in Mantova to take the overall win ahead of Renaux and Kay de Wolf. Again, nine of the top ten championship positions were occupied by Pirelli riders.
The Italian brand also enjoyed success in the EMX250 and EMX2T European championships which were won by Nicolas Lapucci and Maximillian Spies respectively.
