Over in the US, Motorcyclist Magazine’s Editor Marc Cook has now put more than 18,000 miles on his BMW S1000XR test machine.
The latest big service included valve clearances, which can often prove expensive – although on further inspection everything was as it should be, preventing a potentially drawn out and fiddly affair.
Unfortunately for Marc, the throttle-body harness was pinched on reassembly, and five miles from home this eventually short fused a couple of wires and placed the bike into limp mode.
Finally back home a flatbed was called, and the bike crated away to his local BMW dealer to fix the problem.
For the last few months Mark has been running on Michelin’s acclaimed Pilot Road 4 tyres and says:
“The Michelin Pilot Road 4s are holding up well at 4,600 miles, with the rear beginning to square off. I rode the bike a fair bit in the rain and can say the Michelins are very good in the wet; predictable, lots of grip, quick to warm up. Now that the XR has been released from the dealership’s grip, I’m more than eager to wear these Michelins out.”
Let’s just hope the bike doesn’t go into limp mode again in the process….
