Recently Motorcycle News’ Chief Tester Michael Neeves was given an exclusive opportunity to put the new Metzeler Sportec M7 RR supersports tyre through it’s paces.
The tyre was tested against another leading supersport tyre from a rival manufacturer, and was branded as ‘impressive’ in terms of:
- Grip
- Feedback
- Warm-up Time
The test was carried out on one of MCN’s test bikes, a Triumph 675R. The Metzeler was said to be the more comfortable of the two tyres, also providing the rider with confidence more quickly in order to allow him to start pushing the bike more and more on the track.
The new M7, which will replace the popular M5 tyre, was developed on real roads, but also directly with Metzeler’s Racing R&D Department; which competed in all major ‘Roads’ events in 2013 such as the North West 200, Isle of Man TT and Ulster GP. So a wealth of experience, knowledge and technical expertise have gone into making this new tyre.
After the test Neeves was certainly impressed, saying that the grip was excellent in transition through the corners, and that the tyre can ‘handle aggressive acceleration with a degree of lean’.
The tyre will be made available in the UK during January 2014 in the following sizes:
Front:
- 120/70 ZR 17 (58W)
- 110/70 ZR 17 (54W)
- 120/60 ZR 17 (55W)
Rear:
- 180/55 ZR 17 (73W)
- 190/50 ZR 17 (73W)
- 190/55 ZR 17 (75W)
- 200/55 ZR 17 (78W)
- 150/60 ZR 17 (66W)
- 160/60 ZR 17 (69W)
