With the continued growth of the adventure motorcycle market both in the UK and abroad, tyre manufacturers are understandably all keen to get a strong foothold, and now it’s the turn of Dunlop to revamp their offering!
Riders are demanding an ever greater range of performance facets from their adventure bike rubber in terms of mileage, handling and the ability to handle riding on a range of surfaces from tarmac to trails of varying degrees of difficulty.
Dunlop’s answer to these growing demands is the new Trailmax Meridian, which they say offers the versatility to conquer challenges as diverse as off-road adventures and long pan-European tours.
A brand new tread pattern has been devised to expel water as efficiently as possible at high speed, while also offering high levels of dry grip. The high-silica compound enhances wet weather performance even further, also making the tyre more flexible at lower temperatures for excellent cold weather adhesion. The Rayon ply casing also enhances warm up times.
Dunlop engineers were also satisfied with the comparative off-road performance of the new Trailmax Meridian with its claw-like tread pattern when compared with the existing TrailSmart Max and three competitor products. The test was conducted on ‘soft mud’ terrain on an R1200GS at Moneteils, France but no details of the competitor tyres are provided in Dunlop’s press release.
Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe commented:
“Over the last decade we have seen a change in the market. Sports bikes used to be the star of the sales charts, but the main growth area is now adventure bikes. Riders are attracted to the high riding position and long distance touring ability, but still demand the potential for off-road adventure. After researching these rider needs, we set a tough challenge for our research and development team.”
Four front and three rear sizes are currently planned to cover a wide range of popular adventure motorcycle models.
