French manufacturer Michelin have announced the imminent arrival of their new Starcross 5 range of motocross tyres in the UK.
The new range has taken shape following three years of extensive testing, working with riders of all levels from World Championship riders to amateur racers.
The Starcross 5 range features an average weight reduction across all tyres of around 10% when compared with the Starcross 3/4 range. This has been achieved by using stronger, higher density materials so that strength and durability is not compromised.
The more flexible casing, in combination with a more aggressive tread pattern for various surfaces also offer a number of other benefits:
- Improved straight line traction
- More progressive handling in the corners
- The ability to run higher pressures, to negate the risk of the tyre coming off the rim, without it affecting grip or comfort
- Great performance right from the starting gate, so no need for running in
The soft tyre option includes special Mud-Phobic Bars which reduce soil build-up to offer more consistent performance during a race, whilst all options feature an enhanced self-cleaning tread design.
The new Starcross 5 range will start to arrive in the UK in September 2015, and we expect to have them on the shelf for our trade customers as soon as they arrive with Michelin UK. The new tyres will be phased in from next month through to mid 2016, and there will be options for sand, soft, medium and hard terrain with differing tread patterns in the following sizes:
- 100/100-18 M/C 59M TT
- 110/100-18 M/C 64M TT
- 120/90-18 M/C 65M TT
- 100/90-19 M/C 57M TT
- 110/90-19 M/C 62M TT
- 120/80-19 M/C 63M TT
- 80/100-21 M/C 51M TT
- 90/100-21 M/C 57M TT
