Metzeler Boost Slick Performance With New Compound

Metzeler Racetec RR K2 Slick new compound

Great news for fans of Metzeler’s Racetec RR Slick tyres – they’ve boosted performance levels with a brand new K2 compound!

Introduced to Metzeler’s race line-up in 2016 the Racetec RR Slick is available in soft K1 and medium-hard K2 compounds, with a single front and two rear sizes:

  • 120/70 R17 TL NHS
  • 180/60 R17 TL NHS
  • 200/60 R17 TL NHS

Since the middle of last year, the German firm’s own test riders have been working alongside professional racers and ambitious amateurs to test a number of revised K2 compound options.

With that testing now complete, Metzeler have announced that the new specification K2 compound has now come onto the market offering increased grip levels and durability, plus better handling and steering accuracy.

Metzeler now claim a mileage of around 250 – 280 miles from the K2, which is approximately 100 laps around the average race circuit. They also state that it will also work across a broader range of temperatures than the previous iteration of the tyre. Tyre dimensions remain unchanged.

“When it comes to tyres, you can never have enough performance on the racetrack, therefore we’ve now noticeably raised the bar with the new K2,” says Björn Lohmann, customer account manager at Metzeler. “Initial feedback confirms we were able to achieve our set goals. The new K2 offers significantly higher service life than its predecessor, as well as a ‘plus’ when it comes to performance. In other words, exactly what ambitious racers require.”
