With one final round of the season still remaining, Bridgestone backed motocross rider Josh Gilbert has secured the MX Nationals MX2 Pro title for the second year in a row!
Heading in to Round 5 at Cusses Gorse, Gilbert was in a close battle for the title with fellow Bridgestone rider Martin Barr of Crescent Yamaha. Josh put in a fantastic performance to go 1 – 1 in sunny Wiltshire. Unfortunately Martin would go down hard in the opening lap of the first moto, breaking his collarbone and ruling him out from the rest of the weekend’s racing. That was enough to ensure that Josh successfully defended his 2018 title for the Buildbase Honda team.
With the final round of the Bridgestone British Masters just around the corner, and Martin leading the fight for the MX2 Pro title in that series, we all wish him a very speedy recovery!
In the MX1 Pro class, Elliott Banks-Browne was absolutely flying on the Geartec Husqvarna. He was fastest in both practice and qualifying,and looked unstoppable as he took an impressive opening moto victory. However, he was taken out on the opening lap in the second race and had to retire, although Crescent Yamaha’s Jake Shipton pushed all the way to take second place. Jake Millward of Chambers Racing would take third overall,also riding on Bridgestone.
The MXY2 title also looks to be heading in the direction of a Bridgestone shod rider, with Ike Carter showing the rest of the field a clean pair of heels riding for Matt Smith Racing’s setup. Ike heads to the final round of the MX Nationals with the red plate after taking four race victories from four at Cusses.
