McGuinness Wins Dunlop “Greatest Fightbacks” Campaign

John McGuinness Dunlop Greatest Fightbacks

Following his outstanding performance and lap record breaking pace in the Blue Riband Senior TT in 2015, John McGuinness has been crowned the winner on the Dunlop “Greatest Fightbacks” campaign which was launched early this year.

The campaign saw Dunlop take us through the stories behind ten inspiring motorsport comebacks from the likes of Jackie Stewart through to Marc Marquez back in his Moto2 days, with European motorsport fans having the final say on which was the greatest ever.

Great Fightbacks featured some true motorsport legends, but it was John McGuinness’ story, which saw him finally return to form at the Isle of Man TT 2015 after a disappointing year, that seemed to resonate the most with voters.

Despite being the modern king of the Isle of Man TT, recent years had seen Northern Irish rider Michael Dunlop emerge as the man to beat around the mountain course. Following one of his worst race weeks ever during the previous year’s TT, John overcame poor form and injury to secure his 23rd TT win in the senior race and remind everyone that he was far from finished, setting a new lap record in the process.

Runner-up was Mike Hailwood and his infamous return to the TT in 1978, followed by Marc Marquez’s win at Estoril in 2010 – all three bike stories took the top three spots. Jackie Stewart’s 1968 German Grand Prix win in torrential rain with a broken arm came in 4th.

“We’ve been so enthused to see motorsport fans from around Europe voting on and debating these inspiring stories” said Xavier Fraipont, managing director, Dunlop Motorsport. “All these stories have shown that by using your experience and having the belief to never give up, anything is possible. John McGuinness is a very worthy winner and we look forward to seeing even more Great Fightbacks over the coming year.”
