Meanwhile in Italy, riders were gearing up for the next round of the Internazionali d’Italia 2016 at the Lamezia Terme circuit in Calabria.

After an excellent performance in the opening round, Pirelli’s riders were in the mix for podium positions in all classes, although top MX2 competitor Herlings was absent due to his race commitments at Hawkstone.

In the MX1 class Jeremy van Horebeek grabbed 2nd place, with Max Nagl in 3rd – but championship contender Romain Febvre suffered a crash early on and a deep cut to his elbow saw him retire from the round.

With Herlings absent, Samuele Bernardini stepped up for Pirelli, and just missed out on the race win to claim 2nd place, moving him to 3rd in the championship.

After his excellent performance in the MX1 race, Van Horebeek went one better in the Elite race to take a superb win, fending off strong challenges from Evgeny Bobryshev, who currently leads the class.

All of Pirelli’s top riders at Lamezia Terme ran the Scorpion MX Mid Soft 32 on both front and rear.
