Aiming to be the first female rider to win a Scott Silver Spoon, Michelin rider Emm Bristow was recently in action at the 100th running of the famous Scott Time & Observation Trial. Taking place high above the town of Richmond, Yorkshire the moorland course contains a total of 76 hazards over a total of 80 miles.
After just missing out on a coveted Scott Spoon, Bristow commented:
“This event for my-self is what the sport of trials is all about, the ultimate test of rider and machine. No lady rider to the best of my knowledge has ever won a treasured Scott Silver Spoon which is awarded to the top 26 finishers and this year I wanted to change the course of history after a very successful 2014 season”.
“The event is very testing but I approached it with both the MRS Sherco and my-self fully prepared. I started well and soon found a pace I was happy with allowing me to concentrate on my performance in the tough hazards. Despite a rear wheel puncture and some ‘Moments’ including a few crashes I felt optimistic that I had ridden well enough to maybe win a Scott spoon”.
“At the evening awards presentation the countdown took place and when my name was read out as finishing in 33rd position I knew I had missed out by around 25 marks. In a male dominated sport in the toughest one day trial in the world I knew I had tried my hardest and take consolation in that fact”.
“The MRS Sherco was faultless and in truth its superb engine attributes literally pulled me up some of the tough hazards when I became tired towards the end of the day. My support crew were once again fantastic and I want to thank you all for keeping me and the machine in fine form. It’s been a long season which has rewarded my-self, the team and all my sponsors with the World and British Ladies crowns and a Scott Spoon would have been nice. I consider this event as unfinished business and I will be back next year for another attempt to re-write the history books”.
