Following a successful FIM Endurance World Championship at Oschersleben in 2013, Dunlop are optimistic about their chances of success in this years race when it takes place on Saturday 23rd August.
Last year saw Dunlop shod bikes experience success in both the EWC and Superstock classes with the Suzuki Endurance Racing team converting pole position into a win, whilst the works Honda team also recovered from a fuel issue to set some extremely fast times on the R2CL.
New tyre restrictions were brought in for the 2014 season, but as of yet they haven’t been implemented due to periods of rain which have affected both of the first two races of the year. If the Oschersleben track stays dry on race day, teams will be restricted to just 15 tyres for the whole 15 hour duration. Even if a bike can complete relays on 60 minutes, at least one set of tyres will need to be ‘double stinted’, and Dunlop have been focusing their development work on producing a more durable tyre which will deliver prolonged race performance.
As soon as the race is over, the Dunlop crew and supported teams will leave Germany for Le Mans for an official two day race performance test.
Peter Chapman, Dunlop EWC race coordinator, said: “Our goal is to do just what we did last year and win both classes. We went off into the distance on pace and our tyres have improved another step since then so our teams have the best possible chance of taking both wins and filling both podiums. It would be good to see a dry race so we can get a feel for performance on restricted tyres before the Le Mans 24 Hours.”
