This weekend saw the third round of the 2020 AMCA Championship taking place at Warmingham Lane in East Cheshire, with the sun shining down and conditions just right for some close, exciting racing.
Close to the town of Middlewich, Warmingham’s hard pack surface provided a stern test for all the riders and the dust flew.
The race for the MX1 title has been an all Bridgestone affair so far this season, with Josh Waterman taking the early initiative in round one, only for Luke Burton to wrestle that lead away for Geartec Honda in round two.
After qualifying in third place on the IDS Yamaha, it was first blood to Waterman with a win in the opening moto as Burton had to settle for fourth behind James Dodd of fellow Honda and Bridgestone team JSR Racing who took 2nd.
LHRT Kawasaki’s Corie Southwood grabbed his first MX1 win for the South Wales outfit in the second moto, again on Bridgestone, as Burton took second and Waterman fourth. A surge from James Dodd saw him claim another second place in the final moto, while Burton took third and Waterman fifth.
Those results made it an all Bridgestone Battlecross podium with Burton on the top step, followed by Josh and James in second and third with just six points separating the top two.
In the MX2 class defending champion Jamie Wainwright, now part of our Bridgestone support programme, put in a fantastic performance to dominate proceedings and go 1 – 1 – 1 as he extended his championship lead.
Battlecross X30
The Battlecross X30 intermediate tyre was definitely a popular choice among front runners at Warmingham Lane in the hard pack type conditions.
Castle Block Technology offers more consistent grip levels when transitioning between terrain types, and Cooling Fin Technology control heat build up in the tyre to limit casing deformation under hard use.
