BMW’s S1000RR has always been a serious piece of kit, and the 2019 model looks like it will be no exception.
Bavaria’s big selling sports bike has some serious pedigree on the world stage, helping power BSB’s Peter Hickman to his record breaking 135mph+ lap in this year’s Senior TT for example.
In partnership with BMW, the world’s largest tyre manufacturer Bridgestone has developed a specific tyre for the new 2019 model – the Battlax S21 U.
The Battlax S21 is already a popular choice on road-going sports bikes and supersports, and as it benefits from Bridgestone’s many years of MotoGP know-how, it’s no slouch on track either.
An optimised crown profile on the front tyre offers better handling and precision through corners, along with a superb neutral feeling. This is combined with a triple-layer compound and high-stiffness bead fillers for optimum damping and stability.
The rear S21 tyre offers enhanced cornering stability and grip levels by utilising a specific top compound, plus a higher crown stiffness thanks to the Bridgestone’s use of a Mono Spiral Belt in the construction.
This new U-spec version of the S21 is specific to the 2019 BMW.
“After many years of supply of our Hypersport S20 Evo on the previous S1000RR model, it was our target to provide BMW Motorrad with a tyre that gives riders the best that this new superbike can offer. We have used all of our know how in terms of technology and materials and all of our passion to fulfil the demanding performance level requested by BMW Motorrad”, explains Nico Thuy, Head of Motorcycle Europe, Bridgestone EMEA. “This new original fitment recognizes the quality of our products and our leadership in tyre development technologies achieved along the years through our involvement in motorsport and our long-term alliances with premium manufacturers like BMW Motorrad.
We are definitely very proud of this achievement and looking forward to support BMW Motorrad in their next exciting challenges”.
The new Battlax S21 U will be available next year in the following sizes:
- 120/70 ZR17 M/C (58W) TL – Front
- 190/55 ZR17 M/C (75W) TL – Rear
