Last week we were lucky enough to attend the top secret launch of the new Roadrider MKII from Avon Tyres, held at The Bike Shed in Shoreditch.
The original Roadrider is one of the best selling cross-ply tyres on the market in the UK, but Avon don’t want to rest on their laurels, and felt it was time to take things up a notch!
A whole host of industry guests assembled in London for the event, along with special guest speakers including official KTM stunt rider Rok Bagaros and brand ambassador Steve Parrish.
In terms of looks, the Roadrider MKII looks almost identical to it’s predecessor, as Avon are acutely aware that riders like the styling of the current product.
Under the skin however, Avon have stiffened the construction to offer improved stability and handling.
They have also created a brand new compound to improve wet weather grip, but not at the expense of durability. Avon say that internal testing has shown a sizeable improvement in wet braking distances over the original Roadrider.
In terms of the range, they are planning 37 different sizes including H and V-rated options, covering a huge range of newer and older model bikes.
There’s also a new hypersport tyre coming to the market from Avon next year, although the focus of the night was very much on the Roadrider MKII.

“The Roadrider MKII will enable us to build on the success of the Roadrider. Our design team have done a brilliant job to take the many successful elements of the Roadrider and improve them further. Given the strong benchmark, this was no mean feat.”
Cambrian Tyres were also pleased to be recognised as the UK’s leading seller of Avon’s premium sport touring tyre, the Spirit ST, picking up a specially pin-striped award designed by their partner, Nub Grafix.
