Avon say that there have been no compromises when it comes to the design and development of the new TrailRider, the most advanced tyre that the British firm’s motorcycle division have ever produced. It takes a number of design features from the Storm 3D X-M, which is Avon’s latest sport touring tyre – including the firm’s 3D Sipe Technology.
Aimed at adventure bike riders who spend most of their time on the road with a 90/10 split in favour of riding on the tarmac, it will eventually replace the aging Distanzia model, and comes in a range of 18 sizes.
Launched in Bavaria earlier this year, the first sizes have already started to arrive on our shelves at Cambrian Tyres, and initial reports from the journalists on the official launch event are positive.
Brake Magazine’s Jonathan Pearson gave them his personal rating after the launch:
- Warm-Up – 9/10
- Turn-In – 9/10
- Stability – 8/10
- Braking – 9/10
- Side Grip – 8/10
- Off-Road Ability – 5.5/10
- Overall Rating – 8.1/10
Jonathan tested the new TrailRider on a range of machines including the R1200 GS, Super Tenere, V-Strom 1000 and 1200 Explorer. There were no KTM’s on the test fleet – some being unavailable and some, such as the 950 and 990 Adventure not having a TrailRider fitment in the range.
