As a high performance road tyre, Avon’s 3D Ultra Sport is designed to cope with a wide range of conditions – and as with all modern day hypersport tyres, it’s even capable of the odd track day too!
Recently Avon’s sporty rubber has been tested by Kris Hodgson, one of the journalists behind Australia’s bikereview.com website.
Fitted to his Daytona 675R in the middle of the Australian winter, the tyres have had to cope with cold weather, sporadic heavy rain and plenty of dry spells in between.
Despite the cold conditions the tyres warmed up quickly on the roads, offering a progressive feeling in the corners and good mid-corner stability thanks to the optimised contact patch available at lean.
Wet performance also impressed both with and without a pillion even in lower temperatures, the Avon tyres coping well with road imperfections despite the pouring rain.
Kris comments:
“The 3D Ultra Sports so far have offered impressive warm-up times, great grip and feedback, haven’t had an impact on my suspension or the comfort of my ride and impressed me in every way the conditions have allowed. The strong performance in the wet, particularly in dodgy conditions, further cements the Avon 3D Ultra Sports as an all round sports tyre that I’d highly recommend.”
Fellow contributor Jeff has also been testing a set on his on his Fireblade on the track, reportedly finding the limits of the bike well before the limits of the tyres – and still being able to ride home on the same set of road legal rubber afterwards.
Jeff says:
“On track they give good feel for a road sports tyres and plenty of warning before they slide if you push that far. They also offer stability on the gas with a firm rear sidewall and also stability on the brakes into turns also thanks to the sidewall. Edge grip is good and overall a fantastic all-round sports tyre that should not be discounted.”
