Aber Town In Seventh Heaven

Aberystwyth Town 7 - 1 Prestatyn

After a less than ideal start to their 2017/18 season, Aberystwyth Town gave their supporters a big reason to smile over they weekend with a thumping 7 – 1 win over Prestatyn Town.

The JD Welsh Premier League sides faced off at Park Avenue on Saturday in the hotly anticipated 2:30pm clash, with the visitors on top in the opening stages as Aber keeper Chris Mullock produced a fine save to keep the score at 0 – 0.

Just beyond the half hour mark Ashley Young struck for The Seasiders to open the scoring, and seemingly the floodgates for Nev Powell’s side. McKenna, Melvin and Phillips would all find the net in 14 minute flurry of goals before half time to make it 4 – 0.

A stern talking to at half time saw Prestatyn regain the impetus in the early minutes of the second half, finding the net through Noah Edwards. Moments later another fine save from Mullock kept the score at 4 – 1.

Ryan Wade sealed the game for Aber on 67 minutes as he latched onto a 40-yard Declan Walker pass before chipping the keeper. Two goals in the final ten minutes from Walker and Craig Hobson rounded out a fantastic 90 minutes of football from the Black & Greens, as Mullock saved a penalty late on.

The Cambrian Tyres sponsored side now climb to 10th in the table, just 5 points adrift of Cefn Druids as they hope to claim a top six spot before the league split in January 2018.

Congratulations to the team on their fantastic display over the weekend, and we wish them every success in the New Year!
