It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for the Bridgestone shod D.S.C Cornwall Kawasaki team at Little Silver, as they contested the opening round of the Premier MX 2017 Series.
The outstanding performance of the weekend came from new-boy Jake Curtis-Stevens, who came out all guns blazing in the opening Junior A race on the KX250F. After a solid start, Jake too the opportunity to pass the lead rider when it finally came about and then started to open up a gap on the rest of the field, comfortably taking the win in his first race for the squad.
A less than ideal start in the second Moto saw him drop back to fourth, but a spirited performance and some consistent lap times pulled him up to second place. A smart ride in the final race saw Jake bag another win to take the overall, and some very valuable early championship points.
In the Expert Class both Luke Sturgeon and Tommy Alba were competing on the KX450F, with Tommy showing impressive early pace on a talent packed grid. Alba just missed out on the podium with two 4th and one 5th placed finish, but bagged third overall on the day with Luke taking 8th in the second Moto and scoring more useful points in the third.
Jake Parker was also competing on a KX250F in the Junior A class, and a good start in the opening race had him in contention for a good finish before a tangle with another rider dropped him right to the back of the pack. It was a similar story in the next two races, but undeterred Jake fought back hard to take a top ten finish in the final Moto and certainly showed great promise for the upcoming rounds.
The DSC Cornwall Kawasaki team are once again competing on Bridgestone Battlecross tyres which are available in the following options:
- Battlecross X10 – Sand & Mud
- Battlecross X20 – Soft to Medium
- Battlecross X30 – Medium
- Battlecross X40 – Medium to Hard
