Michelin To Introduce Wireless Tyre Tech To MotoGP

MotoGP wireless tyre technology Michelin

You can’t escape from the internet these days!

Following a recent announcement alongside the Grand Prix Commission, Michelin have confirmed that they will press ahead with plans to add embedded wireless technology into their tyres for the 2017 season.

This high-tech development will feed back live tyre information both to race control, TV and media in real time.

Michelin originally proposed a concept based around RFID tagging earlier this year, but the newly agreed system is said to be more advanced than the French firm’s initial idea.

The tyre will be able to feed information back to the ECU via the wireless connection, and this data is then routed to the track timing system which could have a huge impact on racing strategy if riders and teams are able to analyse the tyre choices of their competitors during the various sessions of the race weekend alongside their own.

It certainly has the potential to make things more interesting next year!
