A Yamaha XT660R on adventure touring rubber isn’t something you’d expect to see on your average trackday, but Cadwell Park is one place where MCN’s Rupert Paul has been putting the rubber to test over the last 2,500 miles.
In the 26th October edition of Motorcycle News, Rupert says:
“Should you be unhinged enough to want to take a 650cc trail bike on a trackday, you need these tyres. I fitted them myself to the wheels of the XT660R I share with my son Fred, since when we’ve done 2500 miles of A-roads and city commuting. In those conditions, the tyres are entirely predictable and have no vices. Confidence in hissing rain is particularly good; they are so narrow they cut through the water more easily than sportsbike tyres. But it was an evening trackday at Cadwell that knocked my socks off; masses of braking confidence, and enough cornering grip to duff up averagely-ridden sportsbikes. Whizzing around Chris Curve at 80mph with my foot on the floor was both surreal and hilarious, but mainly hilarious.”
Probably not something you can expect to see landing with your local race dealer anytime soon, but comforting to know that they are pretty versatile all the same!
