Pirelli produced their first Phantom tyre back in 1977, and since then the famous marque has redeveloped the Phantom range several times in order to keep pace with the changes in motorcycle technology.
Similarly, the Triumph Bonneville is something of a motorcycling icon, with it’s timeless styling giving today’s rider a classic looking machine with all the performance of a modern bike.
In 2016 the British brand has chosen to fit the current Phantom Sportscomp to its Street Twin, Bonneville T120 and T120 Black models.
To celebrate this collaboration Triumph and Pirelli have created a one-off Street Twin in the livery of the 1977 Bonneville, the year that Pirelli released their first Phantom tyre on to the market.
This machine will take pride of place on the Pirelli stand at the upcoming Motor Bike Expo of Verona in Italy, and is sure to catch the eye of those in attendance.
There are few tyres in the world of motorcycling that can boast close to 40 years of history, but the Phantom is one exception to the rule. At the time of their release the Phantom tyres were something of a revolution, and used as the tyre of choice in the Formula Laverda 500 Trophy, which was an Italian championship which ran until 1981. Other version of the tyre have included the Phantom + 1, Phantom Supertouring and Phantom Sportscomp, all created back in 1984.
This last product was a radical innovation for Pirelli motorcycle tyres, taking the maximum speed limit from 230 to 240 Km/h and enabling performance of a really high level for the technology in use at the time.
With the new millennium, in 2005, Pirelli revised the Phantom Sportscomp radically, combining the sporting origin of the Sportscomp with timeless charm and style, thus giving rise to a Sport Classic line within the Supersport segment.
