The Dunlop SportSmart 2 was launched back in September 2013, and is the manufacturer’s flagship hypersport tyre.
Introduced as an immediate replacement for the original Sportsmart, it has been recognised as one of the hardest wearing tyres in this segment of the market, although both upcoming and recent releases from other manufacturers may see them equal, if not surpass the Dunlop.
In Issue 29 of BMW Motorcycle Magazine journalist Maik Schwarz, who managed to wear out his OE Rosso Corsa tyres after 3,700 miles, decided to fit a set of the Dunlop SportSmart 2 to his BMW S1000R.
So far he’s been riding mountain twisties and high alpine passes, and has even put in a track day at the Anneau du Rhin circuit near the town of Colmar on the French/German border.
Of the tyres, Maik says:
“Very good dry grip and moderate wet grip, just like the Pirellis. A little harder and less fell with a slight lift when braking while leaned over. Strength: stability in turns and at top speed.”
