As part of the latest installment of their #WeAreAllRacers marketing campaign, as they prepare to take over the helm in MotoGP, Michelin have pitted two high performance machines against one another to see who comes out on top.
The Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercar currently holds the lap record around the Nordschleiffe circuit, making it round in 6 minutes and 57 seconds – and costs a whopping £625,000 in the UK, but at least the emissions are so low you don’t have to pay the congestion charge in London.
The 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 comes in at a far more modest £14,999, and uses 90% of the electronics found on Yamaha’s M1 MotoGP bike. It produces close to 200bhp, compared to the 874bhp of the Porsche.
With the return to MotoGP announced, Michelin released a new range of sporty EVO rubber for 2015, including the Power Slick EVO, Power Cup EVO and Power Supersport EVO, to give road riders, track day fanatics and racers improved performance, allowing them to make the most of the latest breed of sports bikes by fitting Michelin tyres.
With the latest Michelin rubber fitted, can the Yamaha, which costs roughly 2.4% of the price of the 918 Spyder, give the German super car a run for it’s money?
