With the World Superbike series making a brief stopover in France on 4th October at Magny-Cours, RiDE Magazine have been helping readers find some of the best riding routes down to the circuit should they decide to make the crossing from England.
With the nearest town around 10 miles away, Magny-Cours can feel a little remote, but that also means that there are plenty of hidden gems to ride – depending on what bike you have, of course.
Armed with a fully loaded Honda Crossrunner, in their November 2015 issue Alan Dowds headed for the Burgundy region of France to asses both the riding, the bike and the Avon Storm 3D X-M tyres he had already tested on a long-haul trip down to the Paul Ricard before the return of the Bol d’Or.
Of the tyres, Alan said:
“We set off for Magny-Cours on the first drizzly day in weeks, but luckily I’d fitted new Avon Storm 3D X-Ms for the trip – Storms are built with just these conditions in mind. Special-shaped slits in the tyre surface, called ‘3D sipes’, help the tyre warm up faster, while cunning tread patterns help clear standing water. That meant firm-footed progress even when the rain started lashing down halfway to Paris. Later on, when it warmed up round Magny-Cours, the Storms were still doing the business on the shiny, sun-baked tarmac of Burgundy when corner speeds rose. They were stable on the motorway too.”
