Taking a break from his busy race schedule, Michelin-sponsored supermoto star Chris Hodgson has recently spent a day with around 90 children from Distington Primary School in Workington, Cumbria, explaining how his passion for his sport has taught him vital life skills.
Speaking to such a large group of youngsters, who’s ages range from 5 to 11, was a rather daunting task even for a man that can often be found riding on some of the toughest supermoto circuits in the UK, but his hard-won medals and trophies, along with an inspiring message seemed to strike a chord.
Chris explains: “I was pleased to have been invited to talk about my racing career and achievements, and I genuinely believe that my racing success would not have happened had I not learnt to stay focused on my goals and stick with it, rather than giving up when things got tough. It was this lesson that I wanted to pass on to the kids – stick with school, don’t give up on your education or your passion and you can achieve anything.
I was surprised how interested the children were in my Supermoto career and one or two were tempted to try riding for themselves. It’s even inspired me to think that maybe I could do something to pass on my passion for two-wheels to the younger generation, if I were to set up my own youth riding experience in the future.
I also got a fantastic response from the teachers who were asking me plenty of questions about racing and bikes in general. It felt great to be able to offer some positive advice to the children and I wouldn’t hesitate to do something like this again.”
