Last Saturday saw the 11th Tough One Hard Enduro, the second to be covered by Red Bull, and this year known as the Michelin Tough One.
The two Michelin sponsored Hemingway brothers, Ben and Dan, arrived early at the event, ready to get involved in the thick of the action. With dry weather the order of the day, it was clear that this year the event would be fast, without the usual slippy sections, including some big rocks, that give the tough one it’s well deserved reputation.
Following the event, Dan Hemingway reported:
“It was soon clear that this was not going to be the easy day that everyone thought as the fast pace and polishing rocks were soon to punish us with each passing hour. What we did find however is that with our tyre choice of the rear MICHELIN Comp 6 that it performed outstanding in all the changing conditions, the MICHELIN Comp 6 felt positive and stable in the fast grassy fields and coped with the rock gardens due to its flexing and soft side walls, the front MICHELIN Comp 6 was also a great choice providing the suspension and forgiveness needed over the rocks and biting well in the muddy/grassy turns!”
After a gruelling 2.5 hours on the bike, Ben came away with a well-deserved 7th place, missing the top five by just a few minutes. Dan suffered a heavy fall in the Le Mans style start, leaving him in last place, but fought hard to finish 9th.
Both riders reported a positive weekend with the chance to work on their bikes, tyres and suspension setups in preparation for the FIM Super Enduro in France.
