Following a recent deal with the team at Thundersport GB, British based Avon Tyres are to become the official control tyre for the Aprilia RRV450GP race series.
Following much testing during the close season, the organisers of Thundersport GB have identified the road legal 3D Ultra Xtreme as the best tyre solution for the class.
Thundersport’s Dave Stewart said, “Avon’s new 3D Ultra Xtreme tyres consistently outperformed everything else, not only in outright performance terms, but also in tyre tread life and through various heat cycles. Based on those findings, we realised that we simply had to obtain this product for our championship.”
Avon also report that test riders commented on the suitability of the front tyre’s profile on the Aprilia, which gave them the confidence to use all of the tyre.
Thundersport’s Aprilia RRV450GP series aims to fill the gap between 125GP level racing and full-bore 600cc supersports racing. For both novice and advanced racers, the 65bhp Aprilia fits well between 30bhp 125s and 120bhp 600s. The bikes are based on Aprilia’s SXV450 V-twin off-road bike, with suspension, wheel, brake and bodywork modifications, to suit short-circuit road racing. Approved tyre sizes are 120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear.
The series is also available to watch on Motors TV in the UK, and is also shown in America and Australia.
