For the 10th month this year, motorcycle and scooter sales are up in the UK!
Despite many riders putting away the bike for winter, overall registrations in November were up 14.5% on the same month last year, equivalent to more than 700 units. Even the flagging moped segment saw a 2.6% increase, whilst motorcycle sales grew by 16.6%, a total of 5,020 new units being registered.
The Trail & Enduro bike segment saw the biggest rise, with a 46.1% increase in sales from 310 to 453 new units this November. Custom bikes also saw a 34.1% increase, and the strong naked bike segment, which has been fueling much of the growth this year, was up 24.3%. Supersport sales saw a health 17.6% rise in sales, although the segment is only up 2% for the year as a whole, whilst touring bike sales also grew 12.7%. Scooter also grew by 7.2%, and Adventure Sport by 4.6%. The only segment which saw a fall is sales was Sport Touring, which was down 7.4%, but it remaining 2% up for the year as a whole.
Every single engine band saw a rise in sales:
- 0 – 50cc – 3.0%
- 51 – 125cc – 5.5%
- 126 – 650cc – 44.0%
- 651 – 1000cc – 33.4%
- Over 1000cc – 13.2%
Only the 0 – 50cc engine band is down for the year as a whole, seeing a 1.1% fall in sales equivalent to 113 fewer new units registered.
Honda was once again leading the way in the manufacturer sales figures, with 1008 units sold. Their PCX125 scooter has been the highest registering model for the last three months according to official statistics. Yamaha were once again in 2nd place with 708 units, the Triumph in 3rd with 302. Piaggio were 4th (287), KTM in 5th (271), whilst Kawasaki & Lexmoto shared 6th with 248 units registered a piece.

This year there have been a total of 96,723 new two wheel registrations in the UK, a 10.2% increase on last year. With just December to go, can a Christmas bonanza help break the magical 100,000 unit barrier?
