Three New Bridgestone Tyres Unveiled At Intermot

With plenty of new products being unveiled at Intermot 2014, Bridgestone have been showing the motorcycling world three exciting new tyres this week in Cologne.

One of the biggest announcements is a new big adventure bike tyre in the shape of the Battlax Adventure A40.

The new adventure tyre looks to improve on the dry and wet handling of the current Battlewing range, without sacrificing it’s high level stability and durability. The new front tyre profile provides a larger contact patch at high lean angles, which in turn provides better cornering grip. Larger tread blocks increase stiffness, which helps to improve cornering stability. A mono spiral belt provides a comfier ride by improving shock absorption, and with many large adventure bikes having been bought partly because they offer increased levels of comfort over sports bikes, this tyre will only seek to enhance the riders experience.

Bridgestone have also used a revised compound, coupled with a new tread pattern to increase wet grip, channeling water effectively from around the contact patch.

The Battlax T30 is Bridgestone’s flagship sport touring tyre, and is even used by Ron Haslam Race School on their fleet of track bikes.

For 2015 the original tyre will be getting an upgrade with the release of the Battlax T30 EVO, which promises to offer the same sporty handling and high end dry road performance, whilst also enhancing grip and consistency in the wet. As with the new Battlax Adventure A40, Bridgestone engineers have applied a new compound to centre of the rear tyre, which provides more consistent performance over a much wider temperature range. The rear tread pattern has also been tweaked to increase water channeling from around the contact patch, which has been optimises at high lean angles to give more grip in the corners.

The new Battlax T30 EVO will be introduced early in 2015 in three initial sizes:

  • 120/70 ZR17 – Front
  • 160/60 ZR17 – Rear
  • 180/55 ZR17 – Rear

The final of the three new Bridgestone tyres is the Battlax RS10, which has been engineered as a replacement to the current Battlax BT003RS. The new Racing Street tyre has several key focuses:

  • Sportier Handling
  • More Control
  • Faster Acceleration Out Of Corners
  • Enhance Steering Response
  • Increased Stability Under Braking

Bridgestone engineers have developed new front and rear tread patterns, which feature an extra long pitch design, with grooves aligned in the direction of the forces acting on the tyre during cornering. Using MotoGP derived analysis techniques, the design has increased tread stiffness, resulting in more consistent and predictable behaviour, leaving the rider feeling more confident. The use of 3D groove walls also increases cornering stability, whilst separate short lag grooves on the rear control tyre deformation for increased drive out of the corners, leading to faster lap times.

A new compound provides higher levels of grip over a wider temperature range, for superior handling and superb line-tracing precision out on track. The rider also gets a confidence boost in the corners thanks to a revised profile, which optimises the contact patch at lean angles.

The Battlax RS10 features a revised construction, including a mono spiral belt on the front tyre to improve rigidity, and therefore stability under braking. A softer sidewall construction on the rear provides a smoother ride, and reduces the weight of the tyre by 0.65kg over the Battlax BT003 RS, reducing gyro effect and making it easier to transition in and out of the corners. The rear tyre uses cap and base technology to reinforce the stiffness of the tread.

The new Battlax RS10 will be available early next year in three sizes:

  • 120/70 ZR17 – Front
  • 190/55 ZR17 – Rear
  • 200/55 ZR17 – Rear
