This week German manufacturer Metzeler will be attending the start of the 2014 road racing season with some of the big guns of the sport at the North West 200, as riders pit their skills against the super fast triangle circuit.
North West 200 specialists Alastair Seeley and Stuart Easton will join the manufacturer’s star studded line up which also includes Guy Martin, Michael & William Dunlop, Josh Brookes, Gary Johnson, James Hillier, Dean Harrison, Martin Jessop and Steve Mercer around the 8.9 mile road circuit.
Metzeler riders will be using the ‘roads’ developed Racetec slick tyres during both Superbike races, while the Supersport 600 and Superstock 1000 classes will use the road based Sportec RR treaded tyres.
One of the hot favourites will surely be Alastair Seeley who already has ten wins under his belt at the iconic ‘Triangle’ circuit, as he aims to get closer the Robert Dunlop’s all-time record of 15 wins. However with other riders such as Guy Martin in the field pushing for his first ever win at the North West 200 it’s sure to be an exciting and close race.
With events due to start on Tuesday Metzeler UK Racing Manager Jason Griffiths commented:
“For 2014 the Metzeler Road Racing programme has gained even more impetus. The performance of the tyres last year was superb and we’ve continued the development process through the winter. During the off season William and Michael Dunlop have joined us adding further strength to an already stellar rider line up. We’re really pleased to welcome them to Metzeler.
The North West 200 is the first International Road Race of the season and is a special event in a fantastic location. Alastair Seeley has proven in recent years that he is the man to beat, but will no doubt face stiff competition from his 2013 British Supersport rival Stuart Easton in the Superbike class. Josh Brookes is in a rich vein of form at the moment and I think he will feature prominently over the next few weeks.”
