The new Tourance Next 2 is the evolution of the popular Tourance Next, making this the fourth generation of the adventure touring tyre.
There have been a few key areas of improvement over the current Tourance Next include a significant reduction in braking distances, as well as more neutral handling characteristics. The tyre has been constructed using Metzeler’s 0° Steel Radial and Interact technologies, which help to transmit a feeling of safety and control to the rider, also ensuring a neutral, linear handling response. The Longitudinal rear tread grooves are intersected by other pattern elements to improve stability of the tread blocks and ensure more even wear characteristics. This has the benefit of improving mileage yields and line holding on gravel roads.
Although the Tourance Next 2 was announced back in 2021, the tyre launch only went ahead late last month. If you’re a regular Cambrian Tyres customer, you’ve more than likely spoken to Shaun, our friendly sales assistant who has over 13 years riding experience. Shaun was invited to put the new tyres to the test, this is what he had say:
“Recently I was lucky enough to be invited out for the launch of Metzeler Tourance Next 2 in not so sunny Portugal (the Algarve usually has an estimated 300 plus days a year of sunshine but we were met with some rather heavy rainfall throughout the days testing with patches of dry conditions around midway through the day before the heavens opened again for the majority of the afternoon).
We were let loose on the latest model BMW R1250GS with zero mile tyres across about 250km of some of the Algarve’s best technical roads led by the guys from BMW Off Road Skills (ORS from Wales). We exclusively did road routes which is a bit of a change to their usual tours. However, the routes we took and the conditions we encountered really showcased how good the new tyres were, even while running them in.”
“The tyres performed brilliantly with the fast changes in direction on the tight winding roads and felt firmly planted at all times even in the wet conditions thanks to Metzelers HYPERBASE construction and changes to the compounding. Wet weather braking distance is an area which has been greatly improved on which was greatly appreciated with the amount of quick directional changes and blind bends and crests encountered.
I had complete confidence that the tyres would grip even when we hit patches with less than ideal amounts of water on the road allowing me to brake deep without unsettling the bike.”
