Last weekend saw the opening round of this year’s Revo British MX Championship at Culham, and it was a perfect start to the season for Bridgestone supported rider and former GP star Tommy Searle.
Riding for the third straight season with Dave Thorpe’s Crendon Fastrack Honda squad, Tommy was looking to defend his hard won MX1 title which he secured at the final round of 2021.
Despite the long winter break, Tommy has been working hard in the background both on his training and on bike setup, and judging by his performance at the sandy Culham circuit, it was well worth the effort!
In the opening moto Tommy quickly worked his way to the front, and he was able to stay a safe distance ahead of the chasing pack including fellow ex GP star Shaun Simpson.
The second race was an absolute masterclass from Tommy who took the holeshot and set a blistering pace to leave the rest of the field well behind to take his first double win since joining the team in 2020.
Meanwhile teammate Jake Nicholls, back from long-term injury, found himself caught in traffic in the opening moto after a crash which left him with no front brake. After a disappointing 13th in moto 1, Jake was right on the heels of the leaders in moto 2 to finish fifth.
Searle said:
“What a brilliant way to start the year, coming away with two wins. I couldn’t be happier. I have had a good winter training but struggled a bit in in qualifying. But in race I had a good start and I found the leaders on the opening laps were slowing me down so I got past and it was great to take the win.
“In race two I got a clear holeshot which was brilliant. I went straight up the inside and never shut off. It’s been a long time since I had a holeshot like that! I rode my own race and I was riding smoothly. It’s nice to repay the team back for their hard work this winter.”
