Tommy Searle is your MX Nationals MX1 champion for 2020!
Heavy rain across much of the UK on Saturday and early Sunday made the for some interesting racing at the sandy Fatcats circuit, where all eyes were on the fight for supremacy in the ultra-competitive MX1 Pro class.
After grabbing the series lead from teammate Jake Nicholls in round two, Buildbase Honda star Tommy Searle consolidated his lead at Cusses Gorse last month and came to Fatcats in pole position for the title, with several other riders biting at his heels.
After qualifying in fourth position overall, Tommy grabbed a solid third in the opening moto as he passed Jake Millward in the final corner. Playing it safe in the second moto, he came home second to ensure he took the crown for the only Pro MX1 title available in Britain this year, and on Bridgestone tyres too!
Former MX2 frontrunner Martin Barr, also riding on Bridgestone Battlecross, put in a fantastic performance to win the opening fastest 40 combined, and a third place in the second moto saw him take the overall win and confirm second in the MX1 Pro championship.
In the MX2 Pro class Buildbase’s Steven Clarke couldn’t do quite enough to catch Josh Gilbert, but he came away second in the championship overall, while our support programme rider Ty Westcott also secured 2nd in the MX2 Experts.
Elsewhere in the UK, the AMCA were back in action at an extremely muddy Long Lane where Geartec Honda’s Luke Burton extended his MX1 championship lead, while Jamie Wainwright did the same in the MX2 class, and again, both on Bridgestone!
The Japanese tyre maker also enjoyed success at the Girls Nationals just a week earlier with Kathryn Booth winning the main title and Rheanna-Morgan Rodgers finishing a close second in the BW85 class.
