When it comes to big V-Twin motorcycles, there’s a new niche market emerging – performance cruiser tyres.
Sitting alongside a manufacturer’s standard cruiser tyre, these latest offerings are designed to further enhance the handling and all-weather grip on even the heaviest US motorcycles, but not at the expense of mileage which is always a key selling point in this market.
Bridgestone were the first manufacturer to join the party when they launched their Battlecruise H50 (pictured below) and in 2019, Metzeler introduced the all-new Cruisetec alongside their already popular ME888 Ultra.
To really up their cruiser tyre game, Bridgestone turned to their proprietary U-EYE Technology, which was developed during their time as supplier to the MotoGP paddock.
U-EYE allows Bridgestone engineers to simulate the effects of different variables including pressure and lean angle, leading to a more data driven development process which takes much of the guess work out of producing prototype tyres!
With it’s U-EYE optimised contact patch, the Battlecruise H50 delivers high levels of cornering force, which increases wet and dry grip levels at lean. The technology was also used to refine the profile to deliver precise handling with a light steering response, combined with rock solid straight line stability even on poor quality roads.
A combination of brand new compounds and the larger, more uniform contact patch also actually improves durability!
