How Does Continental Traction Skin Work? Continental’s Traction Skin technology used across a number of its motorcycle tyre products promises to almost eliminate the wear in period for a new tyre for riders, which in turn leads to great improvements in rider safety when using new tyres.

So how does Continental Traction Skin technology work?

When a motorcycle tyre reaches the end of the manufacturing process usually a wax like coating is used in order to remove the tyre from the mould.

Unfortunately this coating offers very little grip when the tyre is first used on the road, which is why a wear in period is usually required in order to achieve a greater level of grip from your new tyre.

Thanks to a revolutionary new coating on the tyre mould Continental have managed to bypass this part of the process, so that their new tyres are not covered in this wax like coating.

This gives the tyre a ‘Revolutionary Tactile Tread Surface’ consisting of thousands of small bumps in turn that optimises the mechanical adhesion between the tyre and the road surface almost from the word go.

The wax like coating is what gives many new motorcycle tyres their shiny black look, whereas brand new Continental tyres using the Traction Skin technology do not. Instead the micro roughness of the tread offers the fastest and safest break in period available.
