Deteriorating weather conditions brought the fourth round of the Bridgestone British Masters to a premature close last weekend, but not before Martin Barr and Elliott Banks-Browne sealed double victories on their Battlecross tyres.
Mist and fog was a constant problem as it hung over the hardpack Whitby circuit, leaving some marshals struggling to see one another at times.
Geartec Husqvarna’s Elliott Banks-Browne is the current proud owner of a customised, Bridgestone branded Toyota Hilux which was awarded to the double British Champion after he topped last year’s MX1 Pro class. After missing the earlier rounds of the season through injury, Elliott’s hopes of holding on to the truck this season are slim at best, but that didn’t stop him from going 1 – 1 for the overall win after grabbing the holeshot in both contests.
With a solid 2 – 2 finish this weekend, it’s Crescent Yamaha’s Jake Shipton who leads the chase for the championship title and the pick-up truck, while Jake Millward’s chances were dented by a costly DNF in the second moto as his sub-frame gave way on the Chambers Racing 450. Millward was third in the opening moto, making it a Bridgestone 1-2-3 in the opening race.
There’s also a Toyota Hilux up for grabs in the MX2 Pro class, and Crescent Yamaha rider Martin Barr is in pole position to get his hands on the keys after another impressive performance on the 250. Barr was joined on the podium by Ben Franklin of Chambers Racing, who went 2 – 4 riding on Bridgestone Battlecross to take 2nd overall and secure the top two spots for the Japanese tyre maker.
