Reigning MX Nationals MX2 champion Josh Gilbert put a disappointing British Championships mechanical DNF at Desertmartin behind him at the weekend, as he stormed to the overall victory at Canada Heights.
The Buildbase Honda rider went fastest in qualifying ahead of series rival and fellow Bridgestone rider Martin Barr of Crescent Yamaha, and followed that up with an impressive 1 – 1 for the overall victory. Barr would have to settle for 2 – 2, as the fight for the title looks set to go to the wire with two rounds remaining.
Meanwhile in the MX1 class, Chambers Husqvarna’s Jake Millward and Geartec Husqvarna’s Elliott Banks-Browne also helped to put Bridgestone on the podium, with Millward going 1 – 3 and Elliott going 3 – 2 to take second and third place in this very competitive series. Jake has made a switch to the Japanese brand’s Battlecross range mid-season and has taken some impressive results since then, although you’d be forgiven for being confused by the Pirelli stickers which still adorn his front forks…
There was also an excellent overall win for Ike Carter at Canada Heights on Bridgestone.
Elsewhere in the UK at the weekend, Portsmouth based veteran Darren King made a last minute entry to the AMCA MX1 Expert class at Ollerton and came away with a well earned second overall on his Suzuki. Corie Southwood was also crowned the All British MX2 Champion, and in the Nations Twinshocks Danny Blakeley was on the podium in both the Modern Vet and Open Evo classes.
