Replacing it’s R10 predecessor at the beginning of last year, Bridgestone’s Battlax R11 treaded race tyre has been a big hit in the UK and abroad since it was introduced in 2018.
With several years experience at the helm of MotoGP, and now winning titles in the FIM Endurance World Championship, Bridgestone’s engineers certainly know what it takes to make top quality race rubber!
The Battlax R11 is the first treaded Bridgestone race tyre to benefit from their proprietary U-EYE Technology, which was itself developed within MotoGP. U-EYE allows their engineers and designers to analyse a proposed tyre’s performance in a wide range of simulated conditions, so that it can be greatly refined before the first prototype even rolls off the production line.
The official US launch took place at the vast Utah Motorsports Campus, with Bridgestone laying on a fleet of Yamaha machines from the latest nippy YZF-R3 to the YZF-R6 supersport machine and YZF-R1 superbike.
Multiple US motorcycle magazines were in attendance at the event, including Ultimate Motorcycling who released this video review filmed at the event:
“What stands out to me is how comfortable and predictable the new R11 is. It allows for aggressive, agile riding. At the same time, it doesn’t bite the hand that feeds and makes for great adjustments, even leaned over, regardless of the size of motorcycle you are on.
Tyre wear on the litre bikes was even, which is impressive because we were now dealing with 160+ horsepower at the rear wheel. Superbikes tend to be abusive to rear tires, as they encourage a more point-and-shoot riding style that leans on the bike’s brutal acceleration. We ran nearly a full track days’ worth of riding on a single set of tyres and I’d have been perfectly fine continuing.”
