Consistency has been one of Josh Gilbert’s main strengths in the British Championships.
Last season he came close to securing the MX2 title during his maiden season with the backing of Bridgestone, the world’s largest tyre manufacturer, riding on their acclaimed Battlecross X20 for much of the season.
However, the Honda Adventure Centre rider was still missing an important feather in his cap as the series headed to Blaxhall in Suffolk at the weekend – that all important overall victory!
Despite struggling to find a solid rhythm by his own admission, Josh went 1 – 4 at Blaxhall to take his first overall British Championships win.
In the MX1 class, a nasty pile-up in the opening moto saw the race red flagged. After the restart, it was Bridgestone duo Jake Millward and Jake Shipton who headed the field, holding off a strong challenge from Tommy Searle who had to settle for third. In the second moto however, both riders were caught up in incidents which would leave them well down the order and without points. In the end Shipton settled for 7th overall and Millward 11th, while the ever consistent John Adamson took 8th.
Meanwhile, the fifth round of the AMCA championship was also underway at Fat Cats, with Jack Timms guesting for JSR Racing who were missing two of their regular riders through injury. James Dodd got the pick of the results for the team, and he now sits just 8 points adrift of 3rd place in the MX1 standings.
SRH Racing’s Jamie Powell shone on the sandy Fat Cats track, as he stormed into a big lead in each of his veteran’s motos to stamp his authority on the championship before it heads to Lower Drayton.
